Compassionate support for the transition into parenthood.

what we believe

We believe every family deserves to enter parenthood feeling prepared, respected, and supported.

We believe there is no single “right” way to becoming a parent, and that every family deserves care that honors their individual values, experiences, needs, and choices.

We believe support should extend beyond birth. The transition into parenthood affects the entire family- and parents, babies, siblings, and partners all deserve space to be seen, heard, and cared for.

Most importantly, we believe you shouldn’t have to navigate this season alone.

Prepared. Respected. Supported

Prepared - Through compassionate education, resources, and guidance.

Respected- Through care that honors your voice, choices, and individual journey.

Supported- Through meaningful connection, encouragement, and practica support for the whole family.

The Altruistic Doula exists to help families feel less alone and more confident as they grow.

Meet your doula

Hello sunshine! I’m Janicia, founder of The Altruistic Doula. I’m passionate about helping families feel prepared, respected, and supported as they navigate the transition into parenthood.

With a heart for compassionate care and connection, I’m honored to walk alongside families through birth, postpartum, and beyond.

What People Are Saying

“Janicia is wonderful and is exactly what is needed in a pp doula. She has such a calming and comforting nature that helps to promote an at ease environment. She is so sweet, has the brightest smile and personality, and is a ray of sunshine. As a bit of an anxious mama at times, it was so nice to feel like my baby was safe and being very well cared for. Janicia felt like an old friend almost instantly and it was so lovely to have someone to chat with about life and babies during the PP time. She took the time to hear about concerns, to learn about our family, and to offer resources. Motherhood, and particularly the initial postpartum season, is beautiful and raw, but tiring and tough. I have seen firsthand the incredible difference having the right support during this time makes for women and their families. I wanted to have that type of support these times around. I can say we certainly found that in Janicia and I am so glad to have worked with her. It made all the difference.’’

“Janicia helped me both during days and overnight with my toddler and newborn. She is a kind, thoughtful person and was excellent with both of my little ones. My toddler still asks to see her! Janicia has a joyful, calm presence and was very knowledgeable about newborns- she offered tips with swaddling, breastfeeding, and more. As a testament to her character and loving nature, she wrote us very kind notes and text messages and sent helpful resources even after our time with her ended. I would highly recommend her as a postpartum doula!”

“Janicia was a blessing to have. I had PPD, health issues and a colicky baby. Janicia came when my daughter was about 2/3 months old and stayed with us for well over a month. Janicia not only helped to soothe my daughter, but helped her adjust to napping in a crib, and getting her calm before a nap by reading and figuring out my daughter’s soothers. Janicia also helped me through my PPD by talking with me, sharing multiple resources and giving me a book, Good Moms Have Scary Thoughts. The book helped me tremendously and gave me an opportunity to pass it on to others. (Which I did!) I would love to have Janicia’s services again in the future. Oh, and she’s an amazing singer as well!!! “
